The AVMA, in partnership with Zoetis, is offering 10, $1,000 scholarships for AVMA members interested in developing their leadership potential at the 2016 Veterinary Leadership Conference (VLC) in Chicago Jan. 7-10. To qualify for the scholarships, applicants must fall into at least one of the following categories:

Recent Graduate/Emerging Leader: An individual who graduated from veterinary school within the past 15 years.
Underrepresented in Veterinary Leadership: Veterinarians from a demographic, geographic or socioeconomic group or practice type that is underrepresented in U.S. veterinary leadership.
The deadline for application is Nov. 18, 2015. Scholarship recipients will be selected and notified by Dec. 1, 2015. You can download the scholarship application here.

Not only is the VLC the perfect place to explore and cultivate your leadership skills, it provides participants a chance to learn more about how the AVMA protects, promotes and advances its members and the veterinary profession. Attendees will also find abundant opportunities to network with AVMA leaders, including members of the House of Delegates and Board of Directors, as well as state veterinary medical association executive directors and presidents.

After participating in the 2016 VLC, each scholarship recipient will provide a summary narrative of what they learned and how they can apply this knowledge in their career. Just listen to what some of our previous recipients had to say:

“As a result of attending the VLC, I will return to my community with a challenge to myself and my colleagues to strongly consider getting more actively involved in our profession and in our communities at large.  As veterinarians, we are valued professionals and naturally serve as role models to those around us.” – Dr. Kristen Obbink

“I met a vibrant group of engaged veterinarians eager to be better leaders, cultivate relationships and support veterinary students, interns and residents through our rigorous education process.” – Dr. Jennifer Lane

“I know the VLC was instrumental in giving me perspective and showing me the value of being engaged and active in organizations within our great profession. I am honored to have had the opportunity to participate.” – Dr. Jayme Hennenfent
