Life Cycle of Digenia Trematodes

THE LIFE CYCLE OF DIGENETIC TREMATODES :
The essential point of the life cycle is that whereas one nematode egg can develop into one only one adult but one trematode egg may eventually develop into hundreds of adults. This is due to the phenomenon of paedogenesis in the molluscan intermediate host i.e. the production of new individuals by single larval forms

The adult flukes are always oviparous and lay eggs with an operculum or lid at one pole. In  the egg the embryo develops into a pyriform (pear-shaped), ciliated larva called a miracidium.
